Your Global Digital Infrastructure Accelerator
Telecom Egypt has arisen as a trusted hub linking Africa, Europe, and Asia, and a leading subsea cable operator in the region. Driven by the dedication of its top-notch professionals who tirelessly work to enhance the company's international infrastructure, and a history dating back about 170 years since the deployment of telegraph subsea cables connecting the three continents.
Leveraging its strategic geographical location at the crossroads of the world, and extensive coastlines along the Red Sea (1,941 km) and the Mediterranean Sea (995 km), Telecom Egypt has gained a competitive edge in providing a geodiverse, unified integral system through its ever- expanding international network. The company's commitment to advancing the international subsea infrastructure underscores its dedication to delivering cutting-edge solutions to partners and customers, both locally and globally.
At Telecom Egypt, we spare no effort to work with all industry stakeholders, to expand our portfolio and cater for the growing demand for international connectivity by continuously promoting our infrastructure and reach, offering more resiliency, diversity and protection. Telecom Egypt’s terrestrial infrastructure is a critical enabler that complements our vast subsea infrastructure portfolio, interlinking the 11 landing points on the shores of the Red Sea and Mediterranean. The company operates an extensive mesh network in Egypt encompassing 12 diverse terrestrial crossing routes for subsea cables, including the recent network expansion in the Sinai Peninsula. Our extensive infrastructure currently carries over 90% of international traffic that transits between Europe and Asia, and Europe and Africa, with transit capacity reaching more than 330 Tbps to date. We also have partnerships with more than 170 subsea cable players across 21 in-service and planned systems.
In just five years, Telecom Egypt has enabled 14 cable landings across 7 major systems, including the monumental 45,000-kilometer 2Africa project, the ultra-high-capacity Red Sea Festoon, PEACE, Africa-1, IEX, SEA-ME-WE-6, and the petabit-scale Coral Bridge. These milestones not only amplify regional broadband access but also aggregate vast data traffic flows, supporting billions of people and businesses in their pursuit for reliable digital experiences.
At Telecom Egypt, sky is the limit for what we offer the international community.
Learn moreSinai International Infrastructure — Telecom Egypt has taken a transformative step by extending its international network to the Sinai Peninsula, unlocking an untapped location for the TransEgypt network. This marks the establishment of a comprehensive infrastructure in Sinai, creating new opportunities for global connectivity and enhancing network diversity.
The Sinai infrastructure includes four diverse terrestrial crossing routes that connect the new subsea cable landing points in Sinai — at Sharm El Sheikh and Taba on the Red Sea, and Romana on the Mediterranean together with a new landing station, Port Said 2, located on the west side of the Suez Canal. This new infrastructure is seamlessly integrated with Egypt's existing western network, creating a robust and resilient terrestrial mesh that serves the subsea community. In addition, the network is further strengthened by the construction of Coral Bridge connecting Egypt with Jordan. This repeaterless system delivers a design capacity of more than 1 Pbps, enhancing cross-border connectivity and providing high-capacity, low-latency transmission through Egypt. Further expansions are planned with additional subsea cable systems scheduled to land in Sinai soon.
